A 19 year-old Wallaceburg man walked out of a hospital and into Chatham-Kent Police custody.

His arrest for aggravated assault stems back to an incident over a month ago.

June 30, a 19 year-old was visiting a friend living on Westcourt Blvd while his parents were away. When the parents came home, the man was disruptive and the mother asked him to leave. Instead, a fight broke out police said Aug. 2 in a news release.

Police say the man broke a bottle and used a shard of glass to cut the woman’s neck.

The father and son jumped to the woman’s defence striking the man multiple times in the head and he lost consciousness.

At the time of the incident, the mother and 19 year-old were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The woman went to London and the man was transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital

Police say it took over a month for the man’s injuries to heal enough that he could leave hospital. And when he did, Chatham-Kent Police were there to arrest and charge him with aggravated assault. He’s expected to have a bail hearing today (Aug. 2)

Police say the 18 year-old and 30 year-old man involved in the incident were charged with aggravated assault at the time of the incident. They return to court Aug. 22.
